The Philippines is one the best places in asia to visit. There is great food, amazing fiestas, beautiful beaches, thousands of islands with incredible sites and historic places. If you speak English you will find that there is no language barrier in the major cities.
Its really among my favorite places in South East Asia so I was surprised to realize that Philippines tourism is not in the top 10 most visited tourist countries. While the Philippines pulled 1.6 million tourists its got a long way to catch up with other ASEAN countries:
According to UN World Tourism Organization, In 2013
1 China 55.7 million
2 Thailand 26.5 million
3 Malaysia 25.7 million
— Hong Kong, China 25.6 million
— Macau, China 14.2 million
4 South Korea 12.1 million
5 Singapore — 11.0 million
6 Japan 10.3 million
7 Indonesia 8.8 million
8 Taiwan 8.0 million 7.3 million
9 Vietnam 7.5 million
10 India 6.8 million
from: UN World Tourism Organization – http://www.e-unwto.org/content/r13521/fulltext.pdf
Of the 1.6 million who visited the Philippines in 2013, almost 60% came from nearby asian countries such as South Korea, China and Japan. About 19% came from the Americas and 11% from Europe.
2013 brought a 10% increase in the amount of Philippines tourism. South Korea makes up the biggest visitors at 22% all by itself.
If you have a chance to go, the Philippines is definitely worth a long visit because whatever you decide to do, its more fun in the Philippines!
